The short answer
Payoneer is built for freelancers, online sellers and businesses that get paid from abroad. As of October 2026 it gives local receiving details in 13 currencies, and receiving in your local currency is free. Businesses usually compare alternatives because of its fees, the rules on who can pay into its receiving accounts, or because they need a different kind of account.
For a company, the main alternatives are Wise Business, Airwallex, Revolut Business, Mercury and Align. If you're a freelancer without a registered company, Payoneer or Wise Business are the realistic options: Align, Airwallex, Mercury and Revolut Business open accounts for registered businesses.
Why businesses look for a Payoneer alternative
Payoneer's own pages set out the points most comparisons turn on. As of October 2026, its pricing page (last updated 1 January 2026) lists:
| Payoneer, as of October 2026 | |
|---|---|
| Receive via a receiving account in your local currency | Free |
| Receive via a receiving account in another currency | 1% (minimum 1.00 USD) |
| Receive from a payer's credit card, or PayPal (US only) | Up to 3.99% + 0.49 USD |
| Withdraw to a bank in your own country, local currency | 1.50 USD, in supported countries |
| Withdraw in another country or currency | 1.2% to 4%; minimum fees may apply (without currency conversion, up to 20.00 USD in some countries) |
| Move funds between your Payoneer balances | 0.50% |
| Annual account fee | 29.95 USD, if the account receives less than 6,000 USD in any 12 consecutive months; not charged in the first year on paid annual plans |
Payoneer says these are its most common fees and that prices differ by territory, account type and onboarding channel. Above 50,000 USD a month, it offers custom pricing.
Who can pay you. Payoneer's receiving accounts FAQ says only payments for business transactions from business accounts are supported. Payments from personal bank accounts, and from a bank account in your own name, are declined, unless you're adding funds from your own bank. You also can't receive payments from a company you own unless you're eligible to add funds.
Where payments come from. A local transfer must start in the country of the currency: USD by ACH from the US, GBP from the UK. SWIFT wires can come from any country, but Payoneer says third-party banks typically take an average of 20 to 30 USD before the money reaches it.
What kind of account it is. Payoneer says a receiving account "is not a bank account": you can receive into it, but not send from it. Approval of receiving accounts takes from several minutes to up to 3 business days.
Stablecoins. Payoneer offers a stablecoin wallet powered by Bridge for USDC and USDT. It's rolling out in phases, subject to eligibility, and kept separate from your Payoneer balances.
Six providers compared
As of October 2026, from each provider's own pages:
| Who can open | Receive in | Published receiving fees | Stablecoins | |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Payoneer | Freelancers and businesses; covers 190+ countries and territories | Local details in 13 currencies, including USD, EUR, GBP, AED and JPY | Free in your local currency; 1% in other currencies; 29.95 USD annual fee below 6,000 USD a year | USDC and USDT wallet powered by Bridge, rolling out in phases |
| Wise Business | Sole traders, freelancers and companies; some countries excluded | Account details in 22 currencies; hold 40+ | UK: 50 GBP for account details; domestic payments free in 9 currencies; 6.11 USD per USD wire or SWIFT payment | Doesn't support buying, selling or trading crypto |
| Airwallex | Businesses registered in the 69 countries and territories on its list | Global Accounts in 20+ currencies | UK: 0% for most currencies; 15 USD per Fedwire payment; plans from £0 or £19 a month | Stablecoin activity needs Airwallex's approval; USDC payouts in early access, API only |
| Revolut Business | Companies registered in the UK or EEA, or in the US, with the applicant in a supported country | 25+ currencies, global and local details | UK plans from £10 a month | Accepts companies that accept or pay with crypto; not exchanges or on- and off-ramps |
| Mercury | Companies formed and registered in the US or a US territory | US accounts in USD | $0 a month plan; free ACH and wires in USD | Accounts hold fiat only |
| Align | Registered companies, after a KYB review | Named USD, EUR, GBP and AED accounts (AED for companies outside the UAE) | Quoted on request | Money received lands as USDC or USDT |
Wise Business is often the closest swap for a small business or a freelancer. It publishes its fees and holds 40+ currencies. It doesn't issue USD account details to anyone with an address in countries including Bangladesh, Nigeria, Pakistan, Sri Lanka, Türkiye or the UAE, and it doesn't work with businesses involved in cryptocurrency.
Airwallex suits companies that want local accounts in many currencies, cards and spend management on one platform. Receiving is free in most currencies on its UK fee schedule. Its eligibility list includes India but not Pakistan, Nigeria or the UAE.
Revolut Business suits UK and European companies that want cards, a monthly plan and accounting integrations. Its UK help center lists freelancers and sole traders among the business types it doesn't support.
Mercury is for companies formed in the US or a US territory, including those with founders abroad. Its pricing page lists free ACH and wires in USD, but a company registered elsewhere can't open an account.
Where Align fits
Align is a business account built on stablecoins, for companies that move their own money across borders. It's a fit if you're a registered company and:
- customers or partners pay you in USDC or USDT, or your treasury holds stablecoins
- bank payments you receive in USD, EUR, GBP or AED should land as stablecoins (AED accounts are for companies outside the UAE)
- you want named accounts, with your company shown as the account holder
It isn't a fit if you're a freelancer paid as an individual, or if you want published per-payment pricing. Payoneer and Wise Business serve freelancers, and Payoneer, Wise, Airwallex, Revolut and Mercury all publish their fees.
Named accounts. You get named virtual accounts in your company's name in USD, EUR, GBP and AED. They're permanent: issued to you and kept for future payments, with your company shown as the account holder. See named vs pooled virtual IBANs.
Rails. USD over ACH, Fedwire and SWIFT; EUR over SEPA and SEPA Instant; GBP over Faster Payments; AED over IPP and UAEFTS. ACH and wire access isn't switched on automatically: you request it, and Align's US banking partner runs a second review after Align's KYB. The partner can decline or set limits. See the USD business account.
Stablecoins in and out. Money you receive lands in your balance as USDC or USDT. Align receives USDC, USDT and EURC, and you can pay out in USD, EUR, GBP or AED, or send USDC and USDT to wallets. To pay a supplier, the stablecoin is converted as part of the payment, sent from your named account, and Align may ask for the invoice behind it.
Onboarding. You create an account online in a few minutes and upload documents in 5 to 10 minutes. Align's compliance team reviews them in 1 to 5 business days. Align doesn't onboard companies based in the UAE. Check the prohibited and restricted use list for your country and industry.
Align Payments Ltd. is registered with FINTRAC in Canada as a money services business (registration no. N300000203), and regulated services are provided through licensed financial institutions. Align isn't a bank, isn't authorized under MiCA and doesn't issue stablecoins. Pricing is quoted on request: contact us.
