Align vs Airwallex: which business account fits a company that uses stablecoins

Airwallex is the better fit for most companies that work in fiat: local accounts in 20+ currencies, Visa cards, spend management and integrations. Align fits companies paid in USDC or USDT, because money received lands as stablecoins and pays out in USD, EUR, GBP or AED (AED for companies outside the UAE) from accounts in the company's name.

The short answer

For most companies that bill and pay in fiat currencies, Airwallex is the better fit. As of October 2026 it offers local accounts in more than 20 currencies, Visa cards, spend management and accounting integrations. Its documented stablecoin feature is USDC payouts on Ethereum, in early access.

Align fits a company whose customers, suppliers or treasury already use stablecoins. Payments into its named USD, EUR, GBP and AED accounts land in your balance as USDC or USDT, and you can pay out in those four currencies or send USDC and USDT to wallets. Align's AED accounts are for companies outside the UAE.

Accounts, currencies and rails

As of October 2026, Airwallex's help center says its Global Accounts receive funds in 20+ currencies from more than 70 countries and regions. Balances are held in fiat currencies. Airwallex's documentation lists conversion across 64 currencies and bank payouts to over 200 countries and regions.

For the four currencies Align also offers (Align's AED accounts are for companies outside the UAE), Airwallex's coverage documentation lists these rails:

Airwallex Global Account rails, as of October 2026
USDACH, Fedwire and SWIFT; FedNow and RTP for eligible customers, subject to approval
EURSEPA and SEPA Instant
GBPFaster Payments, Bacs, CHAPS and SWIFT
AEDIPI and RTGS local transfers, no SWIFT; not available to customers based in the UAE

Beyond those, Airwallex lists local receiving in AUD, CAD, CNY, DKK, HKD, IDR, ILS, MXN, NZD, PLN and SGD, with some accounts limited by where your business is based.

Whose name is on the account. Airwallex says Global Accounts "function as local currency accounts in your name". Align's accounts are also issued in the company's name, with the company shown as the account holder. The named vs pooled guide explains why that matters for payee checks.

Stablecoin support

As of October 2026, Airwallex's documentation describes:

  • USDC payouts on Ethereum to a beneficiary's wallet. The feature is in early access, works through the API only (not the web app), and is switched on by an Airwallex account manager. Airwallex says to expect limited functionality while it builds the product with early users.
  • No documented stablecoin receiving or balance. The stablecoin pages cover sending only. They don't describe receiving USDC or USDT into an Airwallex account or holding a stablecoin balance.

In a blog post on 25 August 2026, Airwallex said it is "working to add stablecoin support for customers in the markets where regulators allow it". It also said it invested to incubate Metal, which builds settlement infrastructure for regulated financial institutions, and became Metal's first design partner. Fortune reported on 31 August 2026 that Airwallex had built a service to help customers convert US stablecoins into local currency. Airwallex's public docs don't yet describe that service, so ask Airwallex about it when you apply.

Airwallex's acceptable use policy lists activities involving cryptocurrencies, virtual assets and stablecoins as restricted activities, which need Airwallex's approval. If stablecoins are part of your business model, raise it when you apply.

Cards, spend management and integrations

Airwallex also sells spend management. As of October 2026 it offers:

  • Visa cards. Employee cards come as virtual or physical cards and work with Apple Pay and Google Pay; company cards are virtual only. Spending from a balance in the transaction currency carries no foreign transaction fee.
  • Spend controls. Limits per transaction or per day, week, month, quarter or year, custom approval workflows, and instant freeze or cancel.
  • Expenses and bills. Built-in expense management and Bill Pay for accounts payable. On the UK fee schedule, both come with the spend plans, with 5 free spend users and a monthly fee for each extra user.
  • Integrations. Accounting connections with Xero, QuickBooks, NetSuite, Sage, Microsoft Dynamics 365 Business Central and Odoo, plus commerce platforms such as Shopify and Amazon.

Eligibility and onboarding

Where your company is registered. As of October 2026, Airwallex's help center lists 69 countries and territories where a business must be registered to open an account. They include the UK, the US, all 27 EU member states, Canada, Australia, Hong Kong, Singapore, Japan, India, Brazil and Mexico.

Licenses. Airwallex works through licensed entities in each region. Airwallex (UK) Ltd and Airwallex (Netherlands) B.V. are electronic money institutions, regulated by the FCA and De Nederlandsche Bank respectively. Its Singapore entity is a Major Payment Institution licensed by MAS, and its Canadian entity is registered with FINTRAC as a money services business. Airwallex US, LLC holds state money transmitter licenses and works with Lead Bank and Evolve Bank & Trust for some US customers.

Documents and timing. For a UK limited company, Airwallex asks for the certificate of incorporation, the articles of association, photo ID and residential address for every director and every owner of 25% or more, and a liveness check of the applicant. Its help center says applications are processed within 1 to 3 business days, depending on complexity.

Pricing

Airwallex publishes its prices. Its UK fee schedule, effective 17 October 2026, lists:

  • Explore: £19 a month, or £0 if you deposit at least £10,000 a month or hold £10,000 at month end
  • Grow: £49 a month; Accelerate is priced on request
  • FX: a 0.50% markup on major currencies and 1.00% on others
  • Receiving: 15 USD per incoming Fedwire payment, and no receiving fee for most other currencies

Fees differ by region. Align's pricing is quoted on request: contact the team.

Which one fits

Airwallex is likely the better choice if:

  • you need local accounts in more currencies than USD, EUR, GBP and AED
  • you want company cards, expense management or bill pay next to your accounts
  • you rely on accounting or e-commerce integrations
  • you want published plan pricing

Align is designed for a company where:

  • customers pay in USDC or USDT, or the treasury holds stablecoins
  • bank payments received in USD, EUR, GBP or AED should land as stablecoins (AED accounts are for companies outside the UAE)
  • suppliers are paid in fiat from a stablecoin balance, converted as part of the payment

How Align compares

Align Payments Ltd. is registered with FINTRAC in Canada as a money services business (registration no. N300000203). Its regulated services are provided through licensed financial institutions, its banking partners.

Align's virtual accounts are permanent: each is issued to one customer and stays assigned for future payments. For USD you get a US account number and routing number for ACH and wires, plus a named account for SWIFT. ACH and wire access isn't switched on automatically: you request it, and the US banking partner runs a second review after Align's KYB. The partner can decline or set limits.

Payments to suppliers go through your named virtual account, the stablecoin is converted as part of the payment, and Align may ask for the invoice behind it. USDT can be received on Ethereum, Tron, Solana, Polygon, Arbitrum or Optimism, and USDC on Ethereum, Solana, Base, Polygon, Arbitrum, Optimism or Avalanche. Align doesn't issue stablecoins.

You can create an account online in a few minutes and upload documents in 5 to 10 minutes. Align doesn't onboard companies based in the UAE; AED accounts are for companies outside it. See the prohibited and restricted use list for other countries and activities.

Common questions

Can I receive USDT or USDC into an Airwallex account?
Not according to Airwallex's documentation as of October 2026. It describes USDC payouts on Ethereum, in early access and through the API only, but no way to receive stablecoins or hold a stablecoin balance. Airwallex said in August 2026 that it is working to add stablecoin support where regulators allow it, and Fortune reported a service to help customers convert US stablecoins into local currency, so ask Airwallex what's available to you.
Is Airwallex or Align better for a company that doesn't use stablecoins?
Usually Airwallex. It offers local account details in more than 20 currencies, Visa cards, expense management, accounting integrations and published plan pricing. Align is built around a USDC or USDT balance, which helps most when your customers, suppliers or treasury already use stablecoins.
Are the accounts in my company's name?
Airwallex says its Global Accounts work as local currency accounts in your name. Align's virtual accounts are named and permanent: issued to your company, with your company shown as the account holder, and kept for future payments.
Do both offer AED accounts?
Yes, with the same limit. Airwallex says its AED Global Accounts aren't available to customers based in the UAE. Align offers named AED accounts over IPP and UAEFTS for companies outside the UAE, and doesn't onboard companies based in the UAE.
