Align vs Wise Business: multi-currency accounts compared

If your company doesn't touch stablecoins, Wise Business is often the better fit: it holds 40+ currencies and publishes its fees, including 6.11 USD to receive a USD wire. Align fits companies paid in USDC or USDT, because money received lands as stablecoins and pays out in USD, EUR, GBP or AED (AED for companies outside the UAE) from accounts in the company's name.

The short answer

If your company doesn't touch stablecoins, Wise Business is often the better fit. As of October 2026 it holds 40+ currencies, gives account details to receive in 22, and publishes its fees: 6.11 USD to receive a USD wire, free ACH for most businesses, and a one-time setup fee of 31 USD in the US or 50 GBP in the UK.

Wise doesn't support crypto trading or payments to crypto exchanges and wallets, so it isn't designed for a company paid in USDC or USDT. Align is: money received into its named USD, EUR, GBP and AED accounts lands as USDC or USDT. Align's AED accounts are for companies outside the UAE.

Currencies and account details

As of October 2026, Wise says a Wise account can hold 40+ currencies. Its business pricing page lists account details to receive in 22 currencies, with free domestic receiving in AUD, CAD, EUR, GBP, HUF, NZD, PHP, SGD and USD.

For the four currencies Align also offers (Align's AED accounts are for companies outside the UAE), Wise's help center lists:

Wise, as of October 2026
USDACH and domestic wires from the US; wires and SWIFT from some other countries
EURSEPA; SWIFT in EUR from some countries
GBPFaster Payments, Bacs and CHAPS; SWIFT from some countries outside the UK
AEDNo AED account details; AED is one of 22 currencies you can receive to GBP account details

Whose name is on the account. Wise tells US payers to use "your name as it appears on your Wise account", with the routing and account number of its partner institution.

Neither pricing page lists a monthly fee, and you can see what each payment costs before you sign up. Align's pricing is quoted on request: contact the team.

Cards and team spending

As of October 2026, Wise's UK pricing for business debit cards lists:

  • Cards: physical and digital cards; the first card is free and each team member card costs a one-time 3 GBP
  • Spending: no subscription fee; Wise says card spending uses the mid-market rate with "no markups or margins"
  • ATM withdrawals: free up to 250 GBP a month, then 2.69% on the amount over that

Admins can set daily and monthly limits for each team member, block a member's spending, and control who can withdraw cash. Team members can upload receipts after paying, and Wise connects to Xero, QuickBooks and FreeAgent. Wise says team cards are only available in supported countries.

Eligibility and onboarding

Countries. As of October 2026, Wise lists 21 countries it doesn't support, including Belarus, Cuba, Iran, North Korea, Russia, Syria and Venezuela, plus five regions of Ukraine. USD account details aren't available to a business account where the business, or the personal profile of the person opening it, has an address in Bangladesh, Cameroon, China, Nigeria or Pakistan.

Licenses. In the UK, Wise Payments Limited is an electronic money institution authorized by the FCA. In the EU, Wise Europe SA is a payment institution authorized by the National Bank of Belgium. Wise US Inc. is registered with FinCEN; Wise said in July 2026 that it holds money transmitter licenses in 48 states and four territories, and 80+ licenses globally.

Documents and timing. Wise asks for your registration number, registered and trading addresses, industry and details of directors and owners. It may then request proof of registration and address, ownership documents and ID. Wise says this review usually takes up to 10 working days.

Crypto and stablecoin policy

Wise's acceptable use policy, last updated 25 March 2026, lists companies involved in the exchange or trading of cryptocurrencies or other virtual currencies, and payments to buy cryptocurrencies, among the businesses and transactions it doesn't support. Its business eligibility page lists "businesses involved in cryptocurrency" among those Wise doesn't work for. Its help center adds, as of October 2026:

  • you can't send money to crypto exchanges such as Coinbase or Binance, or to crypto wallets
  • you can't receive money from crypto platforms that aren't licensed in the UK or the EU
  • Wise may close accounts of businesses that buy or sell crypto for themselves or customers
  • some payments are allowed, such as payment for professional services to a crypto business

These pages don't name stablecoins. If they're part of your flows, ask Wise before applying.

On 24 July 2026 Wise said the OCC had denied its application for a US national trust bank charter, and that it plans a new application under a GENIUS Act framework. Wise added that, with digital assets such as stablecoins becoming more visible alongside existing payment rails, its infrastructure is well placed to connect the two. See the GENIUS Act guide.

Which one fits

Wise Business is likely the better choice if:

  • you don't receive, hold or pay in stablecoins
  • you want published, per-payment pricing
  • you need balances in many currencies, or account details beyond USD, EUR, GBP and AED
  • you want team cards and Xero, QuickBooks or FreeAgent connections

Align is designed for a company where:

  • customers pay in USDC or USDT, or the treasury holds stablecoins
  • bank payments received in USD, EUR, GBP or AED should land as stablecoins (AED accounts are for companies outside the UAE)
  • suppliers are paid in fiat from a stablecoin balance, converted as part of the payment

How Align compares

Align Payments Ltd. is registered with FINTRAC in Canada as a money services business (registration no. N300000203). Its regulated services are provided through licensed financial institutions, its banking partners.

Align's virtual accounts are permanent: each is issued to one customer and stays assigned for future payments. For USD you get a US account number and routing number for ACH and wires, plus a named account for SWIFT. ACH and wire access isn't switched on automatically: you request it, and the US banking partner runs a second review after Align's KYB. The partner can decline or set limits.

Payments to suppliers go through your named virtual account, the stablecoin is converted as part of the payment, and Align may ask for the invoice behind it. USDT can be received on Ethereum, Tron, Solana, Polygon, Arbitrum or Optimism, and USDC on Ethereum, Solana, Base, Polygon, Arbitrum, Optimism or Avalanche. Align doesn't issue stablecoins.

You can create an account online in a few minutes and upload documents in 5 to 10 minutes. Align doesn't onboard companies based in the UAE; AED accounts are for companies outside it. See the prohibited and restricted use list for other countries and activities.
