How to convert USDT to EUR and send it to a bank account
USDT is converted as part of a euro payout and sent by SEPA Instant in seconds or standard SEPA within one business day. In the EU, regulators are winding down services for stablecoins that aren't MiCA-compliant, such as USDT, so check what authorization covers the service first.

This is a guide, not a financial promotion. It isn't an offer of crypto-asset services in the EU and isn't a recommendation to buy, sell or hold any crypto-asset.
Regulatory warning. Crypto-assets, including stablecoins, may lose their value in part or in full, may not always be transferable and may not be liquid. They aren't covered by EU investor compensation schemes (Directive 97/9/EC) or deposit guarantee schemes (Directive 2014/49/EU); these are the warnings MiCA requires in crypto-asset white papers. In October 2025, the EU's financial supervisors (ESMA, the EBA and EIOPA) warned that crypto-assets can be risky and that legal protection, if any, may be limited. Align Payments Ltd. is registered with FINTRAC in Canada as a money services business (no. N300000203). It isn't authorized under MiCA, and no EU authority has reviewed or approved this page.
The short answer
Deposit USDT to your Align balance on Ethereum, Tron, Solana, Polygon, Arbitrum or Optimism, then send euros. The USDT is converted as part of the payout, and the euros go by standard SEPA to an IBAN in any of the 41 SEPA countries, or by SEPA Instant where the payee's bank takes part. If your company is in the EU, check the MiCA position first: EU regulators are winding down services for stablecoins that aren't MiCA-compliant, such as USDT.

Step by step
- Deposit USDT on a supported network. Most USDT sits on Tron or Ethereum. Use the deposit address for the network you're sending from, and test with a small amount first. On Polygon, Arbitrum or Optimism, confirm with Align which USDT token contract it accepts.
- Get the supplier's IBAN and legal name. Type the name exactly as the supplier's bank holds it. A sending provider in the euro area checks it against the IBAN before the payment leaves.
- Choose SEPA Instant or standard SEPA. Instant lands in seconds, weekends included, when the payee's bank takes part; standard SEPA lands within one business day.
- Send the payout. The USDT in your balance is converted as part of the EUR payment.
- Paying a third party? The payment goes through your named virtual account, and Align may ask for the invoice behind it. Put the invoice number in the remittance information.
What MiCA changed for USDT
Tether isn't authorized under MiCA, and USDT isn't on ESMA's interim register of e-money token white papers. Large platforms have restricted USDT for EU users since late 2024, from Coinbase Europe on 13 December 2024 to Revolut, which set 31 August 2026 as the end of USDT support in its European offering. Tether's chief executive said in September 2026 that the company had chosen not to apply, citing MiCA's rules on holding reserves in bank deposits, FinanceFeeds reported.
On 8 October 2026, ESMA went further. In an opinion to national regulators, it said MiCA-authorized providers "should cease providing services related to non-MiCA-compliant stablecoins to clients in the European Union". The opinion names no tokens. Any continuation "should be strictly limited" to liquidating, converting, withdrawing, transferring or safekeeping existing holdings, and regulators should have remaining exposures resolved within three months of publication, which CoinDesk put at 8 January 2027. ESMA's January 2025 statement had said "mere custody and transfer" should remain possible.
For an EU company holding USDT, the question is which authorization covers the service a provider performs for you, in your country. The guide to cashing out USDT after MiCA sets out the routes and the open questions. On the reserve side, Tether's quarterly attestation by BDO showed 187.75 billion USD of assets against 183.64 billion USD of liabilities at 30 June 2026.
Verification of Payee on euro payouts
Under the Instant Payments Regulation, payment providers in the euro area have had to check the payee's name against the IBAN on standard and instant euro transfers since 9 October 2025. Providers in non-euro EU countries follow on 9 July 2027. The payer sees one of four results: match, close match, no match, or check not possible. By April 2026, 2,768 payment providers had joined the European Payments Council's Verification of Payee scheme, whose rulebook version 1.1 took effect on 20 September 2026.
For a payout, that means two things. Ask the supplier for the account holder's name as their bank holds it, not a trading name. And treat a no match on a regular supplier as a warning: invoice redirection fraud works by changing bank details, so call them on a number you already hold. The named vs pooled IBAN guide covers the same check when customers pay you, and SEPA Instant vs SWIFT covers euro payments outside SEPA.
How this works with Align
Align pays euros over SEPA and SEPA Instant from a named virtual account in your company's name, with your company shown as the account holder. Your balance is held in USDC or USDT, and the stablecoin is converted when you pay. Regulated services are provided through licensed banking partners. Align is registered with FINTRAC in Canada as a money services business. It isn't authorized under MiCA, and this page is not an offer of crypto-asset services in the EU.

Common questions
- Can a company in the EU still convert USDT to euros?
- It's getting harder. On 8 October 2026, ESMA said MiCA-authorized providers should cease services related to stablecoins that aren't MiCA-compliant for clients in the EU. ESMA named no tokens, but USDT isn't authorized under MiCA. Any continuing service should be limited to liquidating, converting, withdrawing, transferring or safekeeping existing holdings, with remaining exposures dealt with within three months. Ask any provider which authorization covers the service in your country.
- How fast does a SEPA Instant payment arrive?
- Within 10 seconds, at any hour on any day: that's the limit set by the amended SEPA Regulation. If the payee's bank doesn't take instant payments, send a standard SEPA transfer instead, which arrives within one business day.
- What will Verification of Payee show?
- Match, close match, no match, or that the check wasn't possible. Payment providers in the euro area have had to run it on euro credit transfers since 9 October 2025. A no match on a supplier you know is a reason to call them before you pay.
- Should I swap USDT for USDC before converting to euros?
- USDC is authorized under MiCA, so EU providers can keep offering services for it. The swap itself is a service involving USDT, though, so the same question applies: which authorization covers it. The guide to cashing out USDT after MiCA compares the routes.
