Is Bridge a bank?

Not yet. On 12 February 2026, the OCC gave Bridge preliminary conditional approval to organize Bridge National Trust Bank. It can open only after meeting the OCC's preopening requirements, and Bridge says the charter would cover custody, stablecoin issuance and reserve management.

The wider picture

The key points from the guide this answer comes from:

  1. Bridge, Stripe's stablecoin platform, serves companies in most countries, but what you can use depends on where your company is resident.
  2. As of October 2026, its USD virtual accounts take ACH and US domestic wires, and SWIFT is a limited beta for USD only.
  3. EU customers can't get Bridge's GBP, MXN, BRL or COP accounts, and its services are unavailable in Algeria, Burundi, China, Japan and Tunisia.
  4. Bridge still fits if you build on Stripe or want to issue a stablecoin. For named accounts with SWIFT access, compare BVNK, Conduit and Align.
