What if a payment I sent was returned?

The statement keeps the original payment, marked Refunded, and adds a credit for the money that came back, dated when it was refunded.

The wider picture

The key points from the guide this answer comes from:

  1. Download statements from Statements in AlignPay, or Export on the Transactions page: choose one account or all of them, a period, and PDF or CSV for Excel.
  2. Each thing you did is one line in dollars or euros, with its date, description, amount, currency, exchange rate, status and reference. Fees and refunds have lines of their own.
  3. Incoming bank payments show who sent them and the reference they wrote, so you can match them to your invoices.
  4. Give your accountant the Viewer role: they can see everything and download statements, but can't pay.
