USDT on Tron (TRC-20): what a transfer costs right now

Right now one USDT transfer on Tron costs about $2.23 (6.8 TRX) to an address that already holds USDT, and about $4.41 to an address that has never held it. That's the network fee alone, for a sender with no staked or delegated energy, who pays by burning TRX.

What sets the fee on Tron

Tron prices transactions in resources, not gas. A USDT transfer is a smart contract call, and it uses two of them: energy for the contract code and bandwidth for the transaction's size. An account can get them by staking TRX or having another account delegate them; if it has neither, the network burns TRX to pay. The fee on this page is that burn, for a sender with no staked or delegated energy.

Most of the energy is a surcharge. Under Tron's dynamic energy model, contracts that are called heavily, such as stablecoin contracts, cost more energy, by a factor of up to 4.4 times. On 22 October 2026 the USDT contract was at that maximum: a transfer to an address that already held USDT used 64,285 energy, 49,635 of it surcharge. To an address that had never held USDT it used 130,285. We read the contract's current factor on every refresh.

Two chain parameters set the price: 100 sun (0.0001 TRX) per unit of energy and 1,000 sun per unit of bandwidth, according to Tron's docs. Both can be changed by an on-chain proposal, so the dollar cost moves with them and with the TRX price. A transfer takes about 345 units of bandwidth, one per byte. Every activated account gets 600 free bandwidth that refills over 24 hours, which can cover that part; the figure here assumes none is left. Energy has no free allowance.

How long a transfer takes

New block
Every 3 seconds
Irreversible (solidified)
Typically about 1 minute

Tron's 27 Super Representatives take turns producing a block every 3 seconds. A block becomes irreversible, or solidified in Tron's terms, once at least 19 of them have produced a block at that height or above, which Tron's docs put at typically about 1 minute. An exchange or provider may wait longer before crediting a deposit.

Tether lists this as the USD₮ contract on Tron and says the integration path is the same as any TRC-20 token. A token with the same name at any other address isn't Tether's USDT. Source: Tether, Supported protocols and integration guidelines. View it on the block explorer.

Sending USDT on Tron to Align

Align accepts USDT on Tron. It also accepts USDT on Ethereum, Solana, Polygon, Arbitrum and Optimism, and lists every network it supports in its docs. Money you receive lands in your balance as USDT, and from there you can send it to wallets or pay out in USD, EUR, GBP or AED from named accounts in your company's name.

Common mistakes

  • Sending to an address on another network. Tron addresses start with T and Ethereum addresses with 0x, so most wallets refuse the mix, but exchanges offer USDT on several networks. Check the network field says Tron or TRC-20, not ERC-20 or BEP-20.
  • No TRX in the sending wallet. A self-custody wallet with no staked or delegated energy pays by burning TRX, so it needs TRX next to its USDT. The USDT itself can't pay the fee.
  • A fee limit that's too low. Every Tron contract call carries a fee_limit. If the energy needed goes over it, the transfer fails with OUT_OF_ENERGY, and the energy already used is still charged.
  • Assuming the fee is fixed. The surcharge factor changes with how heavily the contract is used, and the energy price is a chain parameter. Quote network costs from a live figure, not last month's.
  • Trusting the token name. Anyone can deploy a TRC-20 token called USDT. Compare the contract with TR7NHqjeKQxGTCi8q8ZY4pL8otSzgjLj6t, the address Tether publishes.

Common questions

How much is the USDT TRC-20 network fee?
It depends on the energy the transfer uses and the TRX price, and right now it's about $2.23 to an address that already holds USDT, or about $4.41 to one that has never held it. That's for a sender with no staked or delegated energy, who pays by burning TRX. A sender with staked or delegated energy pays less.
Why does the first USDT transfer to a new Tron address cost more?
Writing a balance for an address that has never held USDT uses more energy: 130,285 instead of 64,285 when we measured on 22 October 2026, so the fee roughly doubles.
How long does a USDT TRC-20 transfer take?
Tron produces a block every 3 seconds, and a block typically becomes irreversible in about 1 minute, according to Tron's developer docs. Exchanges and providers may wait for more blocks before crediting a deposit.
Does Align accept USDT on Tron?
Yes. Align accepts USDT on Tron, Ethereum, Solana, Polygon, Arbitrum and Optimism. When you send USDT or USDC from an AlignPay balance, Align pays the network fee.
