Key takeaways
- Switch when stablecoins are part of how you're paid or how you pay: Wise doesn't support crypto trading or payments to crypto exchanges and wallets. If you don't touch stablecoins, Wise Business is often the better fit.
- Open the new account before you tell anyone, and run both for at least a month, so payments sent to your old details still arrive.
- Announce new bank details the way you'd want a supplier to: from a known channel, with a confirmation letter, and invite customers to call you back.
- Download statements and payment records before you close the old account, and keep it open until the last straggler payment has landed.
The short answer
Switching from Wise Business makes sense when stablecoins are part of your business: when customers pay you in USDC or USDT, or you hold a stablecoin treasury and pay suppliers from it. As of October 2026, Wise doesn't support crypto trading or payments to crypto exchanges and wallets. If you don't touch stablecoins, Wise is often the better fit: it holds 40+ currencies and gives account details in 22.
The switch itself is mostly about not losing a payment on the way. Open the new account first, run both for at least a month, tell customers and suppliers your new details safely, and close Wise only after the last payment to it has arrived.
When it's worth switching, and when it isn't
Switch, or add Align, if:
- customers pay you in USDC or USDT, or you want to pay suppliers from a stablecoin balance
- you want named USD, EUR, GBP and AED account details in your company's name, with money received held as USDC or USDT, or as EURC for euros
- you're a company outside the US that needs US account and routing numbers for ACH and wires, which Align offers on request after its US banking partner's review
Stay with Wise, or keep it alongside, if:
- you need account details in many more currencies: Wise gives them in 22
- you rely on business cards or accounting integrations, which Align doesn't offer
- you want published prices: Wise lists 6.11 USD to receive a USD wire and free ACH for most businesses, while Align quotes pricing on request
The Align vs Wise Business comparison sets out both side by side.
Before you switch: open the new account
Apply for Align with the same company documents you gave Wise: certificate of incorporation, articles, a register of shareholders and directors, proof of address, ID for everyone who owns 25% or more, and evidence of your source of funds. The KYB documents guide has the full list. The review takes 1 to 5 business days once everything is in.
If you receive dollars from US customers by ACH or wire, request US account details as soon as the account opens: that access goes through a second review by Align's US banking partner, which can decline or set limits.
Run both accounts in parallel
Don't close Wise the day the new account opens. Customers pay from saved details, and some will keep paying the old ones for weeks. A month of overlap is a sensible minimum, longer if you're paid quarterly or annually.
During the overlap:
- put only the new details on new invoices
- move money from Wise to Align as it arrives, rather than leaving two balances to reconcile
- keep a list of who has paid to which details, so you know who still needs a reminder
Tell customers your new details safely
A message saying "our bank details have changed" is exactly what invoice fraudsters send, and careful customers will treat yours with suspicion. Make it easy for them to check:
- send the change from an address they already know, and say it in your invoice footer and on a call where you can
- attach an account confirmation letter: AlignPay produces one for each account, naming your company as the holder
- invite them to confirm by phone on a number they already have for you, and never ask them to rush
- give them your exact legal name, so their bank's name check shows a match
For the other side of the same problem, see how to check a supplier's changed bank details.
Move suppliers and recurring payments
Add your suppliers as payees in AlignPay and check each one's details the first time you pay. Scheduled payments in Wise won't move by themselves: list them before you switch and recreate them, or pay them manually during the overlap. To pay many people at once, AlignPay's bulk payments take a CSV file.
Close the old account last
When nothing has arrived in Wise for a few weeks:
- Download every statement and transaction export you need for your accounts and auditors.
- Move the remaining balance.
- Cancel any cards and integrations that still point at the account.
- Close it, and tell your accountant the date.

Common questions
- Can I keep Wise Business and use Align as well?
- Yes, and many companies should, at least for a while. Run both in parallel while customers move to your new details, and keep Wise for anything Align doesn't do: Align has no cards or accounting integrations.
- How long does switching take?
- Align's review takes 1 to 5 business days once your documents are complete. USD ACH and wire access is requested separately and reviewed again by Align's US banking partner. Plan on about a month from opening the account to moving most customers and suppliers.
- Will my customers see a new name when they pay?
- They'll see your company's name. Align's account details are in your company's own name, so euro payers see a match in Verification of Payee and UK payers a match in Confirmation of Payee, as long as they use your exact legal name.
- What happens to payments sent to my old Wise details after I switch?
- As long as the Wise account is open, they still arrive there. That's why you keep it open for a few weeks after your last customer has moved, then move the balance and close it.
